What does it mean to be an audience ? What activities are involved ? What models for behavior are there, and how did they develop ? Such questions matter enormously to one attempting to map out what audiences are doing and have been doing with art and works of imagination — especially as the “hypodermic” model of audience passivity has been slowly unravelling over the last 20 years. Audiences engage artistic texts, but along what lines ? This is where “audiencing”, the study of the art and craft of being an audience, comes in.

Take a look at  The Ardent Audience, a blog by Daniel Cavicchi i stumbled on this morning while looking for The Reception Study Society. It deals with music audiencing more precisely, but the nice thing about reception studies is that it is by nature inter-disciplinary.

To flycz’s blogroll it goes !
