Cyrano de Bergerac (1950)

The José Ferrer version from Stanley Kramer’s studios. Sure it’s entertaining — but Ferrer’s vocal range is too limited. Where’s the soft whisper that really takes his sentimental rhapsodizations to the next level ? The opening duel in verse is also off the mark: Cyrano should not have to work hard. Too much dramatic fencing. And the end ! Can someone please bring the panache back instead of an ol’ “white plume” ?
